About the SOAS Min’yo Group

We are a group of people who meet at SOAS, University of London, to learn Japanese folk songs (min’yo).

We have singers, shamisen players, shakuhachi players, percussionists, flute players and dancers. Some members are very experienced and are fluent in Japanese, while others are beginners and may not speak the language.

Since our formation in 2012, we’ve started gigging more over the past year or two with performances at the Japan Matsuri in Trafalgar Square, at Sheffield and Durham Universities, the Southbank Centre, the Japanese embassy in London and so forth.

We are a friendly bunch who love to see new faces joining us! Don’t hesitate to contact us at:
